With heavy hearts we share the passing of Michael Kirwin, friend and Board member of the Canadian Taijiquan Federation.
Michael was chief instructor at Headwaters School of Tai Chi in Orangeville, Ontario, which he founded in 2010. He had studied Tai Chi for over 20 years. He also spent a number of years studying with wushu master Ting Seng Hung. Michael was proficient in Yang style, as well as spear, sword, and push hands forms.
As a member of the CTF Board, Michael focused on engaging membership and attracting people to tai chi for health and wellness. He supported the outreach activities of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day, held the last Saturday in April each year.
Michael taught drama and English at the Peel Board of Education for 26 years. These skills made him an engaging and playful teacher of tai chi. He presented on 'Play in Taiji' at the inaugural CTF Symposium in September 2017. He shared strategies for teaching new students with his booklet on the principles of Taiji.

Michael will be sorely missed by his students and colleagues alike.
