10am to 12pm - Chi Kung (Qi Gong)
Powering up your Martial Arts - w/ Sifu Robert Walther
Chi Kung is the root of internal martial arts. Its held positions and slow-moving poses help to increase body awareness and encourage the flow of energy in its practitioners. It helps increase flexibility, strength and balance, and promotes deep relaxed breathing. Chi Kung is connected deeply with the practice and methods of traditional Chinese medicine. No matter your personal fitness level Chi Kung will help you to maximize your health, physically and mentally.
Combative Chi is used to describe the power that can be generated when the mind and body are totally unified.
12:30 to 2:30pm - Bio-Mechanics of Striking
Efficient Movement to Maximize Striking Power - w/ Sifu Greg Magwood
Studying Bio-Mechanics is a gateway to self correction of your Martial Arts techniques. Bio-Mechanics is the science of the forces produced by, or that act upon, the human body. Martial Arts techniques are skills where the objective is to create as much force as possible. Efficiency in technique is paramount. Wasted energy creates fatigue and lowers your potential. The principles of balance, joint forces, sequence, momentum, speed, time, and direction define what is anatomically and mechanically possible and what is efficient.
3 to 5pm - Method vs. Technique
Using Tai Chi Tuishou (Pushing Hands) to improve fighting applications - w/ Ian Sinclair
Softness is a much better way to control the opponent than brute force but practicing softness feels so risky that few students are able to master it. Tuishou (Push Hands) teaches us to break down the eight qualities needed to control the opponent with minimal force. These produce the method by which we control the opponent while maintaining our own balance and agility. In a fight, using too much force can expose us to risk.
"The Sparrow's Tail" or "Lazy Tying" is the foundation of Tai Chi as a martial art. In this seminar, Ian Sinclair will teach Tuishou (Push Hands) and martial applications as a way of understanding these essential tools that you can apply, not only in solo practice, but in any martial application from any style.
